We sat down with Nalin, a trader at Trillium, to learn more about what drew him to Trillium and what it’s like to trade here.

Hello Nalin, would you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m from Long Island — raised there, and I live there now. I went to Cornell, and majored in engineering. More specifically, I studied Operations Research & Information Engineering (OR&IE). Always had an interest in technology, the markets, and the synergies between the two.

So have we. What was it that piqued your interest in joining Trillium?

There were a lot of things that, taken all together, made Trillium a really appealing place to me. I wanted to be part of a growing firm, and to have a lot of responsibility and autonomy from the start. The firm’s training, mentoring, and resources programs are great. The environment is Wall Street, but more laid back and conducive to learning. And the in-house programmers and support staff are really exceptional. It just made a lot of sense to choose Trillium.

And now that you’re here, what are some of the interesting challenges that your work at Trillium pushes you to solve?

In general, the biggest challenge to solve is learning how the equity markets work and how to become consistently profitable even as markets change. I find this interesting because markets are always changing and it seems like the successful people are the ones who are able to adapt, process new information, and react the quickest.

You mention the people — what is it like working with the rest of the team here?

I value other’s ability to share their insights and provide help along the way. People here are smart, hardworking, dedicated, friendly, helpful, and, most importantly, innovative. I didn’t notice it right away, but almost everyone is willing to talk and share what they know. I also value the fact that some are willing to share not only their ups but their downs as well.

And thanks for sharing yours, too. How have you seen yourself grow since you started, and what do you see for the future?

I’ve learned a lot about myself while learning about the market. I’ve improved my mental toughness and work ethic, and become more confident in my decision process. Overall, I’ve learned a lot in a short period of time and I’m really excited to continue to do so. I see Trillium growing to be one of the top, if not the top, firms in equity trading.
